NOTES:

All work is underway (completed, contracted or under construction)

I have multiple quotes for all projects along the way.  I had two delays along the way. THe first difficulty was dealing with the initial Fence contractor who has caused many problems. I am currently in a legal fight and have reported him to Alberta Services.  The full report can be found here.

The second delay was in trying to find out about how I would deal with the add on room (Hot tub room).  All contractors coming in found issues that they wanted to address which were not addressed  in the payout. And all of them suggested and quoted for removal and rebuild.  I was hoping to put the funds allocated in this claim towards that but because I was unable to get the information I needed I proceeded with the repairs suggested and have covered all but the carpeting issue.

Where images are not included in the after state, it is because I had to leave for work overseas which I noted in our conversations in our first phone call.

I have asked my wife to supply further pictures as the repairs come to a conclusion – hopefully in the next two weeks.

Please contact me with further concerns.

Hi Shawn,

I am so sorry for the delay in getting back to you.  I have asked our
underwriting team whether we can provide an extension for you to have
more time to get the repairs completed but I am still waiting on a
response.  I will also inquire with them about how this will work
regarding your coverage while the repairs are going on.

Would you please send any quotes/estimates you have received for the
work to be done so that we have an idea of the estimated time needed to
complete the work?

In addition, have you seal off the affected area to prevent further damage?  If so, can you provide pictures?

Thank you,

Crystal

Hello Crystel,

I’m in a bit of a time crunch at the moment dealing with work and life and this insurance situation.
I know how busy things must be there as well but I really could use the
help with the questions I’ve asked so so I can move forward to meet your
deadline.  I have more quotes and workers coming in today and any help
with the information I requested will help me to answer their questions
as well. I will be away this weekend and return Sept 2.

Hello Crystel,

I’m just writing again to see if you had a moment to go over my questions in the previous email?
My schedule as I prepare to leave for work overseas for 2 months gets
more and more pressing as I also try to deal with repairs and related
matters. If you have a chance to answer my questions I wrote, it would
be an immense help.
Thank you.

Thank you for responding to my message and the extra information. I
understand that you are dealing with a lot of people and why the name
error occurred in the previous email.

As I mentioned in our phone conversation, I am in the middle of
preparation and planning for an over seas work tour commencing September
and ending December when I will return to Canada.

I am trying to address all of the issues on the Hail claim but I need
some assistance in terms of what I have been told by my adjuster and
what I understand through my conversations with you:

1) You set a time of September 10 to have all information to you but
indicated I should contact you if the time frame is an issue. A number
of issues have come up that is making September 10 look difficult for
me.

The adjuster indicated that some issues needed immediate attention
(tree removal etc) and some were not going to cause further damage to my
home and could be repaired at my convenience. I am trying to work on
the priorities but there are things that I am uncertain I will be able
to address until my return in December (All of these are issues that the
adjuster indicated were priorities are currently being addressed)

Could you please advise me about the time frame you are requesting all pictures, quotes, etc?

2) Additionally, there are some repairs which are on a part of the
attached structure that contractors are suggesting being removed and
rebuilt. (hot tub room). I have agreed with them and had planned on
renovations of the space in the future. I noted on your site (https://www.sonnet.ca/faqs/claims/additional-upgrades)
where an issue like this was noted. Can you help me please understand
how this might relate to me, the hail damage, repair vs renovation and
the timeline being imposed.

3) Can this portion of my insured home be simply not covered in future insurance renewals until the area has been reconstructed?

Also, I have had to terminate a contract with a contractor who broke the
Alberta Services act and removed items from my property without
permission. I am now settling with him and obtaining a new contractor
who will have to assess his work and continue that project which is
going to set me back.

Thank you for your help and upcoming support in these matters,
Shawn Kinley

the hauling of the debris, please provide the invoice for that as
well.

Hi Crystal…
I am not sure if the previous email was in error as it was addressed to AUSTIN.
I see my message beneath so I will assume that it was a small addressing issue.

In response to the message where you wrote:

regarding the charges you have or will incur for the
cleaning, hauling debris, and the final cleaning.  I would recommend
reaching out to your adjuster regarding these charges as they would be
able to let you know what can be reimbursed.

In my message I included the lines from the adjuster’s billing about
cleaning and removal. My question was not about whether it would be
reimbursed. (he already include that in the payment)  My question was
that these are things that will be done by me or people I work with.
Will a simple picture of the cleared area be sufficient for your files?

And the final question was, how will this hail event and claim affect my future coverage cost?

Thank you
Shawn Kinley

I think I was possibly not clear

Hi Austin,

Thank you for your prompt response.  You have some great questions
and I want to do my best to ensure that they are all answered.

With regards to the information we need, we are fine with it if you send
it in all at once.  For the pictures, we need pictures of the completed
work to ensure that the damage has been resolved.

Regarding the other documentation, we want to ensure that we have
invoices/estimates, and a bill of materials (if available).  If it is
not we completely understand. The main concern is that the damage has
been repaired.

You also had a question regarding the charges you have or will
incur for the cleaning, hauling debris, and the final cleaning.  I would
recommend reaching out to your adjuster regarding these charges as they
would be able to let you know what can be reimbursed.

If there are any other questions that come up please don’t hesitate to ask!

Thank you again for getting back to me.

Sorry to bother you, I have one more question.

There are some charges like:

33. Cleaning labour minimum* 1.00EA 66.84 3.77 8.69 79.30 <0.00> 79.30

or

20. Haul debris – per pickup truck load -1.00EA 204.44 11.55 26.57 242.56 <0.00> 242.56 including dump fees

and

21. Final cleaning – construction -216.00SF 0.38 4.63 10.67 97.38 <0.00> 97.38

Which are things I have done or will be doing.
How does that work in terms of what you need from me.

Thank you.
S
